Kiptopeke State Park Hiking Trails | Historic Virginia Hiking and Chesapeake Bay Waterfront

Welcome to Kiptopeke State Park, located on the southern end of the Eastern Shore, in Virginia. There are several hiking trails here in addition to the Chesapeake Bay waterfront and a beach for swimming. I did not show all the trails as the film would be too long. I showed my favorite ones for you to enjoy walking them with all their fantastic views. Don’t fall down the stairs! Or the cliff! Cabin and tent camping is available.

The site was purchased by the Virginia Ferry Corporation for the northern terminal of the Norfolk to Eastern Shore ferry system. In 1949, when the terminal was moved from Cape Charles, the site was named Kiptopeke Beach after the brother of a king of the Accawmack Indians. Kiptopeke means Big Water. The facility opened in 1950, and was the world’s largest ferry pier. Ferry service ended in 1964 when the nearby Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel was opened.

  1. Looks like a beautiful trail George πŸ™‚ cool that you can look out for hawk’s. Those berries are so pink! Enjoying walking with you it’s so pretty there.

  2. Can’t say I wasn’t warned..those views are amazing! Great video George really like how that boardwalk goes over the trees and the old ferries were neat to see too. Knowing me I’d probably end up getting stuck cliff jumping to the beach lol. 🌊
